If you want to find a career based on your military background –

  1. When you access the Career Concourse tool, click “Find careers linked to your military background.”
  2. Select the branch of military in which you served.
  3. Select your military job title.
  4. Choose a related occupation that interests you.
  5. The Career Concourse tool will provide information on the occupation, including labor market data, the job market, and employers that are hiring.
In addition, you can use the Career Concourse tool to search by your interests and values, as well as broad career clusters.

SkillBridge

The Department of Defense’s SkillBridge program is an opportunity for Service members to gain civilian work experience through industry training, apprenticeships, or internships during the last 180 days of service.

For industry partners, SkillBridge is an opportunity to access the world’s most highly trained and motivated workforce. Service members participating in SkillBridge receive their military compensation and benefits, and industry partners provide the training and work experience.

Separating Service members can be granted up to 180 days of permissive duty to focus solely on training full-time with approved industry partners after unit provides written authorization and approval.

Entrepreneurship

BOOTS TO BUSINESS

Boots to Business is a 2-step entrepreneurship training program offered by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) as a track within the Department of Defense’s Transition Assistance Program (TAP). This course is open to Service members and their spouses who are interested in self-employment opportunities.

The curriculum aids those interested in exploring business ownership by leading them through the critical steps for evaluating business concepts and providing the foundational knowledge required to develop a business plan.

Participants are introduced to SBA resources that are available, including access to start-up capital, technical assistance and contracting opportunities. After completing Boots to Business, participants will have the tools and knowledge they need to identify a business opportunity, draft a business plan, and launch their enterprise.

Licensure Portability

Licensure portability refers to the ability for a professional license to be recognized and accepted across different jurisdictions or states. Arkansas is dedicated to supporting active duty members, returning veterans, and their spouses in making licensure portability a straightforward transition by having the most accepting laws and regulations for licensure portability in the US.
